Yosemite. August 3, 2017.

After a long morning hike, our guide took us over a small rise to the place he had selected for lunch and rest. Before me opened up a sight so beautiful, so otherworldly, that my heart began to race. Tears unexpectedly welled in my eyes. I felt an emotion oddly similar to fear. The view was so immense and magnificent as to be frightening. The moment caught me completely off guard and I felt so very small. I quickly took this picture (which doesn't come close to capturing the grandeur) and stepped back to catch my breath and meditate on these words:

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the foundations of the earth? It is God who sits above the circle of the earth...who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in. (Isaiah 40:12, 21-22).
